ROXAS City — Police have confiscated illegally cut logs at a checkpoint in Sitio Pinamantawan, Brgy. Mianay, Ivisan town recently.
Led by Supt. Jacob Crisostomo, they intercepted a Mitsubishi Fuso truck loaded with various species of forest products, including 784.63 board feet of mahogany and gmelina trees.
Crisostomo said the cargo truck, owned and driven by 34-year-old Viernesto Jarce of the said barangay, failed to present pertinent documents in transporting the forest products.
The Mitsubishi Fuso truck has been ordered impounded at the compound of the Ivisan police station.
Its owner is facing a case for alleged violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the “Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.”
The seized logs will be turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Capiz.
They will be used as evidence in pursuing legal action against the erring driver/owner of the conveyance vehicle. (PNA)
