BACOLOD City – The family of the slain
defeated candidate for councilor in the 2007 local elections
in Moises Padilla town is being urged by the local police
to cooperate in the investigation.
The cops eye personal grudges as motive in
the crime.
Moises Padilla police chief Maj. Rosauro Francisco
said they are encouraging the wife of the victim, Wilfredo
Navales, to file charges against the suspect once there are
enough evidence.
Francisco said that they are also urging witnesses
to come forward and tell the police what they know.
Navales, 48, was shot in the head while peeing
near his house in Brgy. 1 in the poblacion of Moises Padilla
between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday.
Navales ran for councilor under the ticket
of Mayor Francisco Nazareno but was not lucky enough to land
in the magic eight slot in the Sangguniang Bayan.
He died from a lone gunshot wound while being
rushed to the district hospital in nearby La Castellana town.
Francisco said unless the family will pursue
the case against the suspect or suspects, they will have difficulty
in going after them.
Mayor Nazareno described Navales as a very
helpful person and was very popular among the people, especially
those residing in the upland area. He was a veterinarian and
most of the residents had their livestock vaccinated by him
for free./PN |
