MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) vowed to intensify its information campaign against politicians using the government’s conditional cash transfer program (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps) this campaign period.
There are those who reportedly threaten 4Ps beneficiaries of disqualification from the program should they not support their candidacies.
“The beneficiaries will remain in the program for as long as they are qualified to receive the assistance,” stressed Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman who also clarified that only the agency can delist a beneficiary.
Soliman also stressed that a politician cannot add any beneficiary to the department’s list of beneficiaries.
DSWD has criteria that determine whether an applicant is poor or not and qualified for the 4Ps.
The opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) earlier claimed that their rivals in the administration party are getting “undue advantage” to the P44-billion anti-poverty program of the government.
The 4Ps is used to entice recipients to vote for administration senatorial bets, UNA claimed.
It called for the suspension of the 4Ps.
The administration candidates, however, described UNA’s claim as “outright falsehood.”
UNA, they said, is only finding an excuse to justify its defeat in the upcoming mid-term elections./PN
