MANILA, Philippines—President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is flying to China early next month to attend the World Expo in what could be her final foreign trip before she steps down on June 30.

Ms Arroyo will attend the Philippine Day celebration from June 8 to 9 at the Shanghai World Expo, touted as the world’s largest fair, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) said.

The World Expo is expected to draw world leaders and millions of people across the world. The OPS could not provide other details of the two-day official visit.

Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza said last week that the Vietnamese government, through its ambassador in Manila, has invited Ms Arroyo to attend a world economic summit in Vietnam also next month.

“But these are well still in the process. It’s not sure if she will accept the invitation,” he said.
