identifies rebel casualties

TUBUNGAN, Iloilo – The Armed Forces of the Philippines
(AFP) yesterday identified two of the three casualties from
the New People’s Army (NPA).
Fatalities were identified as Jolito Carpio
of Bgy Boloc in Tubungan town and Eduardo Jumil Camat of Bgy
Ginez , Leon.
Their lady companion, an amazona who was also
killed is yet to be identified.
All victims succumbed fatal gunshot wounds
on the different parts of their body in an encountered with
Philippine Army soldiers in Sitio Igbolo, Brgy. Igcabugao,
Tubungan town Tuesday morning.
Capt. Lowen Gil Marquez, chief of the 32nd
Civil Relation Unit of the AFP said the lady fighter was only
identified as active member of the League of Filipino Students
(LFS).
Meanwhile, the police and the military have
identified Camat, 23, through his voter’s ID card recovered
from his possession and control.
Also recovered from him was his photograph
holding an M16 Armalite rifle with an NPA flag on his background
while Carpio was identified by some of his relatives in Tubungan.
The bodies remained at the funeral homes in Sibalom, Antique
for autopsy.
Following the Tubungan encounter, the Iloilo
Police Provincial Office (IPPO) alerted police units in the
province for possible retaliatory attacks by the NPA.
Senior Supt. Ricardo dela Paz, police provincial
director, also ordered the set up of checkpoints.
The Tubungan police station has also given
additional policemen, he revealed.
Marquez revealed that five detachments of
the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in Panay
Island are targets of NPA attacks.
“Documents recovered from Tubungan after
Tuesday’s encounter showed the possible targets,”
said Marquez.
The five CAFGU detachments in Alimodian, Tubungan
and Miag-ao, Iloilo ; and San Remegio and Valderama towns
in Antique, Marquez added. This was indicated in a logbook
recovered from the encounter.
“These CAFGU detachments have been placed
under rebel surveillance round the clock for four months,”
Marquez said.
Three civilians were also wounded in the encounter.
Dela Paz said the three are being guarded.
“They can shed light on the encounter,”
he explained.
The wounded civilians were Jose Gabion and
his two daughters – 12-year-old Joy and 10-year-old
Jessica. They were brought to the Guimbal district hospital
for treatment.
Marquez said Jose Gabion sustained a gunshot
wound on his chest. Jessica had a wound on her buttocks.
Both were later transferred to the Western
Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City for
further treatment.
