De
Venecia cites urgent
need for new jobs
MANILA - Senatorial aspirant Joey de Venecia
cited the “urgent need to bridge the ever-widening gap
between available jobs and the ever-increasing crop of new
graduates.”
“The report that only three in every
ten graduates this year will find proper employment is woefully
distressing given the fact that the national unemployment
rate is nearly eight percent while in Metro Manila joblessness
stands at more than 11 percent,” De Venecia said.
The Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino senatorial stalwart
said “this problem will only worsen in the coming months
and years unless we are able to create higher value jobs and
equip new graduates with the skills matching the dynamic job
market.”
De Venecia said “among the most promising
sunrise sectors of the economy is information technology (IT)
where job-creating investment opportunities abound.”
“This is why we need to make the business
environment particularly attractive to IT along with allied
business process outsourcing activities,” De Venecia
said.
“The youth of today belong to the best
and the brightest and we must work hard to help them find
jobs here at home instead of choosing to become either overseas
contract workers or settle for lesser paying jobs that do
not match their academic qualifications,” De Venecia
stressed./PN
