KUDOS
TO BORACAY POLICE
A WOMAN, a Filipino-American citizen, was recently victimized
by an Australian national in the resort island of Boracay.
She was very profuse in thanking and lauding the Boracay Special
Tourist Police Office for helping her and taking immediate
action against a violent person.
“We feel safe with the police here in Boracay compared
to Manila,” she said gratefully.
She was thankful that policemen were able to apprehend the
suspect and lock him up in jail.
Congratulations to the policemen of Boracay for a job well
done.
You are the saving grace of the island, which has become noisy,
polluted and crowded.
Say mo, Mayor Cawaling?
HOPE FOR THOSE BATTLING WITH CANCER
TO all our brothers and sisters suffering from the “Big
C”:
A text message is circulating about the supposed anti-cancer
properties of the lowly tanglad, also known as fresh lemon
grass.
We do not know how true this is, but who knows… Here’s
the text message:
Drink eight glasses of hot water with fresh lemon grass.
Can kill cancer cells in vitro, while leaving healthy cells
unharmed.
Citral is the key component in herbal plants such as lemon
grass. Studies have shown that citral causes cancer cells
to “commit suicide” using apoptosis, a mechanism
called program cell death. -- Researchers Dr. Rivka Ofir and

NARCO-POLITICS IN ILOILO CITY
LOST in the competing headlines this election season is the
bigger picture, and that picture is the looming menace of
narco-politics.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has long warned the
public about narco-politics -- its corrupt and corrupting
influence, in society in general, and over politicians in
particular.
There is no question that money counts in politics; and that
our fabulously expensive political campaigns require greater
and greater infusions of funds as the public becomes increasingly
cynical of candidates. Here enters the drug lords who dangle
money to fund some politicians, in exchange for protection.
In Western Visayas, and Iloilo City in particular, PDEA has
raised the alarm. The public must be vigilant, know the candidates,
their patrons and the sources of their campaign money.
We do not want coddlers of drug lords to lead us in the next
three years.
Don’t you agree, “king” Raul?

NIPPED IN THE BUD
WHAT could become an anomaly at the Metro Iloilo Water District
has been stopped by the Government Procurement Policy Board
(GPPB).
It ordered a bidding to MIWD’s bulk water supply project,
instead of having it thru negotiated contracts.
Sources said the recent appointment intramurals in the water
district has something to do with the bulk water supply project.
There were favored suppliers, kuno, and some members of the
MIWD Board were insisting of negotiated procurement.
But a negotiated procurement (for a 10-year contract kuno),
according to GPPB, would be inconsistent with the primary
objective of providing “immediate relief” to the
current water shortage, because the law only allows negotiated
procurement during emergency cases. Is the MIWD telling its
concessionaires that its “emergency” water supply
problem will last for 10 years? Mga tonto!
Haslo! That’s all we can say to this moronic idea of
a 10-year negotiated procurement for MIWD’s bulk water
supply project.
Say mo, Adrian?
