ILOILO City -- The top official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Region 6 expressed confidence that the police-public partnership is getting better.
Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., regional police director, was reacting to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showing that six of every 10 Filipinos trust the police.
“Magandang balita po ito. Nagpapasalamat tayo sa patuloy na pagtaas ng pagtitiwala ng ating mga kababayan sa aming hanay (This is good news. We are thankful for the public’s continued trust and confidence in the police),” he added.
The survey was commissioned by the PNP and conducted from December 8 to 11 last year.
Cruz said the rating should serve as an inspiration and additional motivation to the members of the PNP to pursue quality public safety services.
He also said the satisfaction rating of the public should be sustained through vigorous anti-criminality drive, especially in the security coverage for the May 13 elections.
In Western Visayas, policemen have intensify the campaign against loose firearms in relation to the implementation of the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections.
Checkpoint operations, police visibility, intelligence gathering, and dialogs with the community are also conducted to deter violence and other incidents that may disrupt the midterm national and local elections, said Cruz.
“The elections is another opportunity for us to display to the public our capabilities, as well as our efficiency, effectiveness and competence in pursuing our mandate to serve and protect,” the region’s top cop said./PN
