Solon
donates soybean expeller
DUMAGUETE City – The municipality of
Dauin in Negros Oriental received a soybean expeller from
3rd District Cong. Henry Pryde Teves, to be used to grind
soybeans in producing soya milk.
According to Teves, the soya milk will be
used in the free noon meal feeding program in his district.
Soya milk is rich in protein and a good supplement
for the protein requirement of children.
Aside from soya milk production, the solid
particles of soya will also be used as ingredients for making
soya bread, which is rich in protein but cheaper compared
to commercial bread.
Teves said he chose to launch the soya milk
production in Dauin because he is optimistic that the project
will not fail there.
The soya milk production in Dauin will start
immediately as soon as the supply of soybeans starts coming.
The technology was adopted from 1st District
Cong. Jocelyn Limkaichong who conceived the soya milk feeding
program for elementary schoolchildren in her district.
Some units of soybean expellers will also
be distributed to other local government units once the soya
milk production in Dauin is implemented.
Dauin Mayor Rodrigo Alanano promised to give
his full support for the successful implementation of the
soya milk production.
The soybean expeller was made through the
expertise of the Provincial Integrated Skills Training Center
(PISTC).
PISTC manager Silverio Saceda said a unit
of PISTC-made soybean expeller costs some P28,000.
However, the machine could cost P50,000 if
purchased from commercial stores, he noted. (PNA)
