NegOr
police stations to get new firearms
DUMAGUETE City – New firearms will be
given to police stations, announced Negros Oriental Police
Director Senior Supt. Augusto Marquez.
Marquez was able to get 30 brand new shotguns
from the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) in Cebu City, he revealed.
The guns will be distributed to police stations
in urban areas such as Dumaguete City. Marquez said shotguns
are more suitable over M-16 rifles in urban or highly populated
environments.
Marquez is planning to give the M-16 rifles
to police officers assigned at the Provincial Mobile Group
(PMG).
The provincial police director was also able
to get six more vehicles from the PRO-7. The slightly-used
vehicles are still serviceable although they need minor repairs,
he said.
The vehicles will be assigned to the police
stations in Santa Catalina, Manjuyod and Guihulngan.
Meanwhile, Marquez is asking local chief executives
to shoulder the minor repairs of the vehicles. He is optimistic
thattje mayors would be willing to spend for the repair job
because the vehicles would help maintain peace and order in
their areas.
Marquez admitted that there are still police
stations in the province that need logistics augmentation.
