| Jimenez
vows to support Bayan-Anihan projects
BY DANNY B. DANGCALAN
TALISAY City — Ted Victor Lizares Jimenez,
who is running for congressman in the 3rd District, vowed
to support Bayan-Anihan, a project that aims to counter poverty
and hunger in farming communities by making its people self-reliant.
“We should work with the people of farm
communities and inculcate in them that there are so many resources
in their areas that they could use to fight poverty,”
Jimenez said recently at a Bayan-Anihan orientation in Hacienda
Sta. Teresita, Dos Hermanas here.
Professor Jethro Dagunan of Bayan-Anihan said
their mission is to eradicate hunger in the country by establishing
sustainable food sufficiency programs through multi-sectoral
partnerships.
One of their projects is called “Goodbye-Gutom”
which gathers farming groups and communities to train their
members on self- sustaining and self-reliant endeavors to
combat hunger and poverty, Dagunan said.
Farmers are taught how to organize themselves
and maximize idle lands for organic farming. This will ensure
food for every family as long that there is the willingness
to develop culture and discipline of productivity, he added.
Jimenez, for his part, stressed that he will
support Bayan-Anihan as he believes that its projects need
unity of the people, support of the government and the private
sector./PN
