Displaced
workers in Antique,
Capiz to avail of DOLE rehab program
Some 500 workers from Antique and Capiz provinces
are expected to benefit from the emergency employment program
of the Department of Labor and Employment Region 6.
DOLE 6 recently released P766,000 to hard-hit
municipalities of the said provinces after signing a memorandum
of agreement with their respective mayors.
The amount is part of the P3.5-million fund
for emergency employment assistance of workers in the informal
sector, who lost their jobs and livelihood in the aftermath
of typhoon Frank in Western Visayas.
The short-term employment program through
the local government units (LGUs) includes repairs of damaged
infrastructure such as schoolbuildings, daycare center and
irrigation system, and dredging of canals, among others.
DOLE regional director Aida M. Estabillo also
visited said provinces to survey the extent of the devastation
wrought by the typhoon.
“This assistance is just an initial
step of DOLE to bring back to normalcy the lives of workers
whose livelihood were lost or severely damaged due to flood
and mudflow brought by typhoon Frank,” she said.
Aside from the P3.5-million fund, another
P18 million was earmarked by DOLE Region 6 for the livelihood
restoration, the second phase of DOLE’s early employment
recovery program, for affected workers and their families.
Estabillo said the second phase of the program
will assist the beneficiaries in reviving their means of livelihood
through the acquisition of their livelihood resources such
as farm implements, farm animals, carpentry tools and fishing
gears, among others,
On Wednesday, DOLE will release another P1.207 million to
Aklan's hard-hit municipalities for the implementation of
emergency employment assistance. This will benefit at least
700 workers.
Likewise, it will distribute another 500 packs
of relief goods to affected workers in Aklan and Iloilo provinces.
Early this month, the DOLE 6 has released
P1.817 million to 17 municipalities severely affected by the
typhoon in Iloilo province, benefiting at least 960 affected
workers.
It also distributed 1,000 packs of relief
goods to three provinces in Panay. (PNA)
