SAN JOSE, Antique – Persons with Disability (PWDs)
here will be given discounts on their purchases in business
establishments through the PWD identification card.
According to Mayor Rony L. Molina, he initiates the distribution
of PWD identification cards to give such privilege to PWDs.
He announced this during 32nd National Disability Prevention
and Rehabilitation Week 2010 celebration here recently.
“If business establishments refuse to grant discounts,
you may come directly to me to complain so we can make appropriate
action,” Molina said in his speech, addressing the PWDs.
“I am encouraging those who are not yet member of PWDs
to coordinate now with your Municipal Social Welfare and Development
office so you can easily avail the services intended for you,”
he added.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Lydia Bagolcol, representative from the Department
of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 said the unity
of the congressman and governor is beneficial to PWDs.
“Based on experience, DSWD programs and services are
not effectively implemented when the congressman is not in
good terms with the governor,” she said.
During the celebration’s program, Bagolcol discussed
the updates on laws, policies and programs for PWDs, urging
them to demand for services and programs intended for them
from their local officials.
On the other hand, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Roberto
Operiano, represented Gov. Exequiel Javier in the event.
He said disability is not a hindrance to success.
“You must never pity yourself; instead, live with hope
and faith in God,” Operiano said.
“Look at Doty Delos Reyes and Edman Sumaculub…
despite their disabilities, they achieved great things —
you too can do the same,” he added.
Delos Reyes is a polio victim and is now a state auditor
in the Commission on Audit.
Sumaculub, on the other hand, whose disability was caused
by motor accident, is now on his second term as Sangguniang
Bayan member Hamtic town.
The celebration was themed “Sa Istrukturang Accessible
Lahat ay Able.”
